(the Musicians of Bremen) 4 cardboard boxes, 4 sensor, 4 walkmans, 4 speakers
A piling up of 4 different dimensions cardboard boxes that looks like a perforated babel tower. Each box utters a differents shout of animals when somebody gets near them. From high to low : the rooster, the cat, the dog and the donkey. This installation reminds the fable of the Brothers Grimm “ The musicians of Bremen” : To make run away a band of thieves in the forest, during the night, the animals jump on the back on each other in order to seem bigger like a monster, an indefinite form, a huge unusual shadow and then approach the thieves and begin to shout together as a big cacophony and frighten them. All is based on imagination, and that brings me to my second reference : Saint-Exupéry’s “little Prince”. The boxes remind the little prince’s box that contains his sheep. Any box, drawn or real, is able to contain any kind of things, and stimulates our imagination. Once it is perforated, in our imagination, it means that there is somebody breathing inside that needs oxygene. The being that is inside remains a mistery, only the sound brings us to the form.
